As the world’s oldest tennis tournament, Wimbledon brought its excitement from London to Ankara. The Women’s Singles Final featured Poland’s Iga Swiatek and American player Amanda Anisimova. The match was watched by ambassadors, sports community figures, and guests in the British Embassy’s garden. Swiatek’s victory came after two swift 6-0 sets, wrapping up the match in just 57 minutes.

British Ambassador to Ankara, Jill Morris, emphasized that Wimbledon is not only a sporting event but also a part of a cultural lifestyle. “This year, we wanted to bring Centre Court to Ankara,” she said. “For Britons, Wimbledon isn’t just an iconic sports event or the oldest tennis tournament in the world; it’s a moment when friends and families gather to enjoy the unique atmosphere of tennis.”

Morris also highlighted the effort to keep Wimbledon traditions alive during the event. “We wore white to honor the dress code, and we’ll serve traditional Wimbledon treats such as strawberries and cream,” she added.
