The birthday of King Charles III was celebrated with a reception in the garden of the British Embassy in Ankara. UK Ambassador to Türkiye, Jill Morris, who hosted the celebration, said productions like The Turkish Detective, filmed in Türkiye and starring both Turkish and British actors such as Haluk Bilginer, Yasemin Allen, Ethan Kai, Erol Afşin, and Martin Bruchmann, are clear examples of creative cooperation between the two countries.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and EU Affairs Ambassador Mehmet Kemal Bozay attended the reception, along with representatives of the diplomatic and military corps based in Ankara, and many other guests.

Ambassador Morris highlighted that the UK’s creative industries are a global success story and emphasized the importance of their cooperation with Türkiye. Morris added, “These industries contribute over £124 billion to the UK economy and encompass a range of sectors, including film, fashion, video games, and virtual reality. Türkiye is also a country rich in creativity, from its vibrant cinema and television sector to globally recognized design, music, and culinary arts. And our countries are increasingly collaborating in this field. Recently, we’ve seen UK productions being filmed in Türkiye, and joint ventures such as the BBC’s The Turkish Detective have brought our cultures to global audiences. There’s a strong economic relationship between Türkiye and the UK. Upcoming negotiations on the updated Free Trade Agreement offer a real opportunity to deepen our partnership. Tourism is another dynamic link between our countries. In 2025, we expect a record number of five million British visitors to Türkiye. What draws them is your hospitality, history, and natural beauty.”

STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

Deputy Minister Bozay stated, “Today, Türkiye and the UK are NATO allies, strategic partners, and solid trade partners who work together on many regional and global issues. They share a common commitment to security and stability both in their regions and beyond. This commitment is more critical than ever, as we face unprecedented times marked by the war in Ukraine and the situation in Gaza, which has reached the level of genocide. The concept of European security is now under discussion, and we must remember that Türkiye and the UK are highly capable and indispensable contributors to this debate.”
