On the 55th anniversary of the signing of the Élysée Treaty, they organized a special lunch at the German Embassy in Ankara for representatives of the press. Later in the evening, a gala dinner took place at the French Embassy in Ankara for ambassadors and diplomats. Both events hosted by German Ambassador Martin Erdmann and his spouse Marion Erdmann, and French Ambassador Charles Fries.
FRANCE AND GERMANY: AN OLD COUPLE
Speaking about the event, Ambassador Erdmann said, “This agreement signed between France and Germany 55 years ago symbolizes the end of the wars and enmity between our countries that had existed for centuries. As France and Germany, we have been working together for 55 years and our success is a source of pride for both countries.” Ambassador Fries, in reply, said that the friendship between Germany and France began with the Élysée Treaty, adding, “This is not just a friendship agreement between Germany and France; it is also a partnership in service of the European project… Germany and France are like an old couple. We may not always agree on everything, and sometimes we do not come to terms. However, like good old couples, we are always looking for reconciliation and a joint idea.”
GERMAN WINE BEAUTY
The Gala Dinner menu was prepared jointly by French Embassy Chef François Rochedreux and the Chef of the Istanbul Hilton Andreas Scheuregger. German wine Princess Charlotte Freiberger was also in attendance.
